Michael Hayden is the Director of Orchestras at Wauwatosa East High School. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his Master of Music in Music Education from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Wauwatosa School District, Michael taught orchestra, music production, rock band, and music theory most recently for the Whitnall (WI) and Whitefish Bay (WI) School Districts.
As an educator, Michael is passionate about music and technology, especially the new and relevant ways students can create meaningful and unique music compositions using a variety of recording/sequencing hardware and software that are readily available. Additionally, Michael is a frequent presenter at various state and national education conferences in the areas of music technology, secondary general music, composition, technology integration, and personalized learning.
Michael currently is the north central division representative on the NAfME Council on Music Composition and serves as the state technology chair on the Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA) Council, where a regular contributor to the organization’s publication, Wisconsin School Musician. He has also contributed articles and blog posts to Leading Notes, JamHub, Music in a Minuet (NAfME), and Music Educators’ Journal (NAfME).
